there's something about it being black and white that impacts stronger than a colored photo of 'four cute puppies' - the arms hold them securely, hugging them; hte four are watchful and quiet, not wriggling about and trying to escape, lick, play. Black and white forces the viewer to focus on their faces also and we see such different expressions and pesonalities it might have been lost in color because we would have been seeing 'aww cute puppies' only. The one on the right, you have to watch out for, he won't take anything sitting down and he's very suspicious; the second one is shy and insecure, squished between the others; the last two are trouble-makers, don't turn your back on them!
Black & white is indeed a great tool to remove the decoration of color and give emphasis to the content, the essence of the image. Thank you for your comment!
